Vangelis Kontopoulos was born in Cronv, Czechoslovakia. At the age of 15 he moved to Greece.
He studied bass at the National Conservatory of
Thessalonica and graduated in 1996.
He was a founding member of various Greek historic bands as Aleretour, Artline, Morelo and more.
He worked as a professional bass player in concerts and studios along with the most important Greek artists such as: Agami Thite, Nikos Portokaloglou, Eleni Tsaligopoulou, Melina Kana, Charis Alexiou, George Dalaras, George Andreou, Tania Tsanaklidou, Christos Thivaios, Pantelis Thalassinos, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Nikos Xydakis, Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Vasilis Papakostantinou, Alkinoos Iwannidis, Lefteris Xristofis, Paul Wertico, Nikos Touliatos, Kostas Maginas, Nikos Zoudiaris, Apostolos Rizos, Roland Hofman, Nikos Sidirokastritis, Takis Farazis etc.
As a session musician he has played in concerts all over the world (Germany, France, USA, Japan, Australia e.t.c.)
He was a member of the Municipal Orchestra of Thessalonica from 1993 to 1995. At 1995 he started playing solo concerts indulging in improvisation.
Using electric, fretless electric and acoustic bass and with a touch of the magic hand of technology, he explores music taking full advantage of his unique sound.
He has written music for theatrical plays and modern dance.
In 2005 he moves to a small town intending to dedicate his time in his personal work.
In 2007 he releases two personal records, "Like The Flowing Water" and Live In Museum.
He starts presenting solo concerts all around Greece, and presents his personal album with various bands.
The last years he played also in Turkey, Germany and Bulgary. He gave concerts with Kostas Magginas and Peter Saltchev. In January he gave a concert with Chico Freeman and Dimitris Panagoulias.
Nowdays he is completing the recordings of his third album.
